MOD POLL: February TDM Prompts Response - OPEN UNTIL END OF 2/16

Hello! It's your friendly neighborhood Taymod with a poll regarding the recent test drive meme prompts. (For those who are unfamiliar, you cannot post polls from unpaid accounts, which is why I am signed into a character account, but this is an official mod post!) If you haven't given them a look, please at least read through the summaries to get an idea of what is going on. It's fine to handwave your responses. Here are the guidelines for responding to the poll:
  • The poll can be filled out once per active character in Isle of Avalon.

  • Yes, still vote if your character did not participate in each task. You may handwave participation if you didn't have time to thread yet, but if your character IC did not participate, please include that information.

  • If you haven't reached the point in your thread where your character has come across this choice yet, please discuss and plot it out with the person you are threading with ahead of the end of the poll period.

  • If your character does something that isn't covered in the poll responses and you believe it may have an effect on the outcomes of the poll, please let us know in the comments.

  • Everyone should vote in this poll, including new characters. We are having the poll live through 11:59pm PST on Feb. 16th in order to allow for all new applicants to participate. To that end, the OOC plot post won't go up until the 18th. See calendar for more details.

Claude will be in favour of leaving the Fisher King's corpse where it is, but he would at least check if it has any valuables/relics/weapons etc. he can yoink and take back with him. Would he be able to find anything?

There are definitely a few bits of large treasure buried with him, including the following:
  • A painting about manboob-height on Claude of a man with no eyes.

  • A substantially-sized raw emerald weighing about 6000 carats. (~42.3OZ/1199G). It's not going to fit in a pocket, but it's carryable

  • What seems to be a chandelier made of human bones. It's bulky, but carriable with two hands. Claude would need to agree to let someone else escort him home to stay safe.

  • Claude cannot carry these all out on his own without assistance. Either choose 1 item to carry out or find at least 1 person per item.

We will not tell you what they do / are worth until after the items are taken, as Claude would not be able to find out until he got back to Camelot. :) :) :) :) Choose wisely.

*We'll work with you if you don't want to play it out, no worries.

Thanks mods! Claude's always thirsty for potential lore so he'll go for the manboob-height painting, since that seems particularly interesting. :') I'll check with Nik whether Kate would be interested in stealing one of the other items/if anyone would be interested in stealing the third item.

edit: Kate will steal the gem! so that's 2/3 items, I'll let you know if anyone is interested in the bone chandelier.

edit #2: Rei hypmic will take the bone chandelier!

Thanks for your patience! Sorry, we wanted to make sure all the event stuff was sorted since it was time-sensitive.

The Painting: This painting is a holy painting, created of pigments made from blessed and holy materials. By not being able to see with its eyes, it is able to see with its heart. The mouth of the painting will open to appear as if it is screaming if someone with ill intent in their heart enters the building it is hung in. If only good or neutral intentions are in the room, its mouth will remain closed. It has no means by which to identify who the bad intentions belong to or what they are.

The Emerald: Despite emeralds often being cursed, this one isn't. It's possessed, though. Held within the emerald is the soul of a succubus. It will slowly feed on the soul of the person who possesses it until it is strong enough to possess them. As a possessing demon, the succubus will combine personalities with its host with the goal of 🌶😳🌶 people for their life force. Don't worry! One bang won't kill a person, but you may want to avoid back-to-back sessions with the same person. The succubus is tied to the emerald, but won't be destroyed with its destruction. It will essentially respawn in each new piece and spread further possessions with anyone who picks up a piece.

The Chandelier: Since Rei picked this up, does this make him "Bone Daddy"? The chandelier is from an old cruise ship that was lost in the Bermuda Triangle. When hung and lit, during the witching hour (2-3am) the spirits of its passengers will come out and throw a party in the house it was made. The passengers are from the 1920s, and as such will clear out all of your alcohol and smokes. You can interact with them all you want, but don't accept a dance- your soul will leave your body as you do and become one of the many trapped in the chandelier.

    Thank you mods!

For the painting, I'm guessing it would look like it was screaming when they find it because it would consider the graverobbers to have ill intentions? How long would it take to return to normal (or would it stay that way forever around Claude bc he stole it... lmao).

If it helps, he'd be stealing the painting to study it and see if it's potentially useful, not because he'd want to sell it, so I'm not sure if that's considered more 'neutral'.

Also, is the figure in the painting anything he'd be able to research, or is the figure entirely fictional?

cw: blood magic, murder, creepy twin shit

    [personal profile] avalonmods 2022-02-27 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh definitely. It would stop screaming as soon as he got home and it was in his normal place. It doesn't base it on the crime or punish, just when the intentions are presently there. (So it can be used as a warning someone is planning on something bad, not as a tattler that someone already did something wrong.)

The figure in the painting is of the artist who painted it! If researched at the Archivist's, Claude will be able to learn this: The painter was known as Jacques Teak. Jacques's mother had sealed the soul of his twin into Jacques's body when they were teenagers after she realized that he was showing signs of becoming a twisted monster of a serial killer, but could not bring herself to end her own son's life before he did something truly heinous. It went fine at first, but Paul learned to control his brother's body over time. Jacques lived his life well, marrying and having children of his own, until one day Paul took over and murdered his entire family. Jacques painted their image onto Canvas with blood magic and special enchanted pigments. With this painting, he could always know when his other half was plotting something while he was in control and lock himself away so he could stop the second soul from doing anything bad. No one would ever be hurt again. The painting traded hands for some time after Jacques and Paul's death, eventually being stolen from Celliwig before the Forest of the Fallen became the Forest of the Fallen. It's unclear what happened to it after it was stolen. (Well, until now.)

I feel dragged lmaooo and here I was planning on having Kate not be horny for a while.

I'm guessing siphon magic wouldn't pick up anything untoward if it was used on the items?

Edit: also forgot the obvious questions - how much would she get for it on the dark web and since it isn't cursed, I assume passing it on / selling frees her from the possession?

    [personal profile] avalonmods 2022-02-27 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! Not cursed, possessed. A death mage might be able to sense something though since there's a soul there that's not supposed to be.

Selling it or passing it on before it fully possesses her would free her of the possession. If she holds onto it long enough, the effects can become permanent. Note that it is researchable via the Archivist as a lost artifact. As for how much she would get for it on the dark web, emeralds tend to go for however much the seller wants historically on both Earth and Avalon. So. It'll sell for a hell of a lot as long as she doesn't low-ball herself and doesn't mention that it's possessed.

Good to know! And I assume the timeline for full possession is basically up to my discretion?

Oh wait, and! What would be found out about the emerald at the Archivist's?

Thanks but my second question wasn't answered: what (if anything) else can be learned about the emerald / the succubus within at The Archivist's?
    avalonmods: (Default)

    [personal profile] avalonmods 2022-03-12 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
The Archivist would have a vague history about a succubus that tried to sleep with a man at an inn once only to realize he was a prince after killing him. She fled, but the King vowed to chase her to the ends of the world. She fled to Avalon, and even still, the King found a way to find her. To protect herself, she bound her soul to the emerald. The King ordered her put somewhere no one would dare trespass to keep her from ever being released, and thus she was sealed in the tomb.
