October Announcements & September Update Log

Please note: We have received a significant amount of both support and feedback in Mod Contact and on the previous event outcomes post over the last week+ and we have not yet been able to respond to all of it. We sincerely appreciate it and are glad to see how passionate our players are about Isle of Avalon! If you have not yet received a response, we will get back to you as soon as we are able. Please know that we are reading and considering what everyone says and will choose where to go forward from here. In the meantime, certain items are up for polling right now until 10/2. Please respond ASAP! 

 Important Announcements for October:

• Brrr! October temperatures promise not to go above 55F/12.8C and nights will likely have an average of around 45F/7.2C. The first week of October will be wet, muddy, rainy, and heavily foggy. Things will clear up the second week for a little while, giving a brief peak of sun, a week of thunderstorms and heavy fog. ☔⚡ October will finish off with heavy, noisy winds. Spoopy!
• There's news that King Arthur will be making an open AMA post soon so that people can ask him questions and bring problems to him. Date TBA.
• The people of Lestari are showing cognitive mages how to make special candles for this time of year that burn with green flames and allow those sleeping in the room with them to dream of loved ones. These are typically made by those who cannot make it to the Death Ball, their seasonal holiday, but since it is impossible this year due to events, they will all be making candles. For more information about that and other cultural information about Celliwig and Lestari's citizens, click here.
• The old man who lives in the cabin across from the Pure of Heart bridge has passed away peacefully and well-cared for in his final days, under the care of Emet-Selch as part of his sentence for his crimes.
• Camelot's castlegrounds are open. Except for the King's wing, rooms are available for refugees or players to stay in. Meeting rooms are reserved for organizing recovery efforts. Additional guards will be needed for the castle stores to make certain that food is not stolen. It will be distributed as needed once all heads are accounted for to make certain that food is rationed and not hoarded. The castle will work with anyone else's recovery efforts and charitable help as well. Comment here to sign your character's up to work with Camelot to help with resource direction.

NEW Housekeeping Updates:

• Locations page updates:
  • Locations added: Ruins of Celliwig, Ruins of Lestari and the Southern Ash Mountain
  • Locations archived to comments: Celliwig, Southern Ash Mountain - City of Lestari
  • New function added: Player-created Locations.
    • Enjoy fleshing out the setting? Avalon encourages creating your own locations as needed within the overarching setting locales. If you have a notable location your character frequents or you want other characters to know about / be able to interact with, you can now add it using our form to the spreadsheet. Subject to mod approval before it appears on the spreadsheet. Whole new locations / significant modifications to known or mentioned locations must be mod-approved. Mods will check and approve periodically. You will receive a message if something isn't going to work out with the setting. None of this is required, it was just a wonderful suggestion from a player to allow players to contribute to the setting.
• We will be introducing a game-wide HMD going forward in January, May, and September. Participation of players will be 100% optional. Anonymous will not be enabled. There will be a section for moderation so that players have a standard place to provide feedback publicly, though we always accept suggestions and comments via the Mod Contact.
• Due to participation decrease, EMP/ATP will be changed to a similar quadrimester pattern to the HMD and will take place in February, June, and October. (Exempting this October, as we just did one yesterday.)
• The QuestBoard format has been changed to hopefully look a little less text-heavy. This wasn't noted by players as needing it, but we felt while we were cleaning up the layouts we could do this quickly. We will ask for feedback on this later in the same location as the new event layout once it is up. Please bear with us over the next TDM/events as we settle on a better format.

• Reminder (shared since August, will continue to be until Nov. to get the word out): In November, all monthly items will be available for the game's one year anniversary. If you missed a previous monthly item (see Glossary for all available obtainables), you'll have a chance to get it in November! Please make sure to also purchase regular items you have been interested in before then as well, as some items of the standard stock will be changed. (We will be looking at previous purchases to see which ones are the least popular and switch things up.)

Charity & Recovery Efforts

Darin Altway

Aside from placing the memorials, Darin will be donating time and supplies to building temporary housing and clinics to accommodate the refugees of the destroyed cities. He will be looking for any craftsmen to donate their time to join him as well as any merchants/people willing to procure materials for them.

Claude will be using his green magic to help grow fruit/vegetables/herbs for Chang Geng's soup kitchen. He'll also be making door-to-door deliveries for those too injured to make it to the soup kitchen, and pitching in to help with the cooking there too.

Claire will be using her Green Magic to assist in growing food for the winter, as well as providing medicinal herbs for poultices, medicines, and other kinds of necessary healing plants. She will be also be offering the Redfield Delivery Service (her business) to ensure timely delivery of food, medicine, and other necessities to refugees in need free of the usual courier charge.

In addition to participating in some of the organized recovery efforts, Allura will be running a charity stream on her vlog.

If there's a relief fund being organized, all money will go directly to that. Failing that, the plan is:

- Part of the money raised will go to supporting any recovery efforts that require monetary aid
- The rest will be going directly to refugees, to help with any specialized assistance they may need that general charity efforts might not cover

Barbara will hunt up some extra animals like rabbits and pheasants to donate to the refugees. She'll also save the fur & feathers from cleaning them to anyone who wants to make use of them for clothing, etc.

Beowulf

- Excavating the dragon's hoard to help with financial efforts.
- Scavenging personal valuables and materials from the ruins of Celliwig, as well as dealing with any of the dead. Meant to be a means of helping give the former residents some closure and comfort while scrounging up more building materials and items of use.
- Helping with cooking food for refugees and those that need it if necessary. He's a good chef.
- Using his healing magic to help the injured if necessary.

Hawk will donate some of his supplies from his not quite yet opened shop to aid in making potions or anything else that can help refugees. He also donated some of his already made Camelot totems to people rescuing survivors to help transport any wounded found in Cellwig.

Yuber (does this even count as a recovery effort? Not really)

Yuber will be killing anyone he sees trying to rough up the refugees. Not because he actually cares about any of this, but because he thinks it's fun.

(and if authorities think refugees are doing the killings and it creates some chaos well, he's into that)

Mukuro Ikusaba

Mukuro will be mostly backing Darin on the manual labor front- running errands, delivering supplies, fetching materials and suchlike. She's... less concerned about the refugees and more trying to stop him overworking himself, but the net affect is good at least.

Li Min/Chang Geng

He'll be running a soup kitchen along with some volunteers as well as working extra shifts at the clinic!

Emerald is going to gather stuff for his soup kitchen for ingredients and also provide extra security if things get rowdy / a fight needs to be broken up if he doesn't tell her to go away when she tries kajdkadg

Gareth is helping with the soup kitchen, but is also making herself available for any and all efforts where she can be of help, even if it's just as physical labor.

Food and healing

Xingchen is learning how to grow fruits and veggies as fast as possible and giving his results to the various kitchens he comes across! He's also able to help with minor medical needs, but learning to grow stuff is more important at the moment.

Belgium

She'll be donating leftovers from her café to any kitchens that might need them. Better they be used than wasted.

Since Hijikata's still been living at the hotel (at least formally) he'll give up his room to house refugees, but otherwise his focus will be on the ghosts stuck on Avalon. During the last week of September he'll help those from Celliwig and Lestari find their family and friends (living or deceased, if they didn't end up in the River of Lost Souls), but come October he'll begin gathering those who want to help fight crime in Camelot and start up something like a ghost task force.

If this doesn't conflict with any other players' plans he'll talk to the old man's ghost and, with his permission, temporarily relocate to his hut to train the ghosts in a remote location and further investigate the Forest of the Felled. If someone else needs the hut he'll find some other place. As such he'll leave Riou's camp by the lake open as an additional work station / storage location for anyone to use (though he may still dip in to sleep there when he visits Camelot and stays overnight).

If other death mages (or anyone, really) would like to join forces on this, by all means!

This one is burying the dead. It's...not new to him. They can't be left to rot and he might be hoping to find some soul fragments. Don't worry, that smell will be gone in no time~!

Gokudera Hayato

Gokudera will be helping with his familiar to collect and donate toys to comfort any young refugees.

Red Wine will be spending time helping to build temporary housing where required, directing people to resources they need, and generally keeping the peace.

Poison's going to be helping out with the soup kitchen and general food distribution. She'd rather not share a room, but she will give her room at the inn up completely for people to use (and bunk somewhere in the Alchemy Guild building instead, for now).

Jane will be using her healing magic to help out anyone injured, and helping out with food/supplies distribution. If she spots anyone treating the refugees roughly or creating trouble in general they'll find themselves momentarily blinded by dark magic or suddenly dealing with the symptoms of an unidentified hex.

Than's feeling a weird guilt that he doesn't much like about where he chose to be in the events around Lestari/Celliwig and has decided to deal with this by assisting the refugees with shelters, supplies, food, and anything else they might need. He'll also be keeping an eye out for any trouble brewing up, within reason, so it can be dealt with without anybody getting hurt.

With the parents that need to find new jobs or look for better housing, Della Duck is here to offer babysitting services! She's more than happy to watch over babies, kids, rebellious teenagers, etc, and for very cheap! This includes playing, taking them out and about the town, storytime, bathing, feeding, etc.

Ruby Nakamura

Ruby will be using her green magic to grow food, as well as doing deliveries for the refugees and those helping in the interests of the refugees. She may not have a bag of holding, so she can't take things in bulk, but she is a fairly fast and competent delivery girl!

Eustace will mostly be doing some extra hunting, mostly the larger game (or at least as much that's allowed/legal/etc) to help with the food shortage. He'll also pop into Celliwig from time to time to help protect the people still working there from any threats.

- Zidane's given up his room at the Inn and opened up his house. He's moved in with Garnet for now
- The treasure he's gotten from Jailbreak? Yeah, he's not keeping it in good faith, it's being used to help the refugees
- He's keeping Gangs from hassling refugees
- He's taking some aristocrats' dues since they don't want to provide charity willingly (one of whom, it's personal)
- Bargaining with the Dullahan... however that ultimately helps
- Helping any hunting efforts, building bunk beds, and burying the dead (obviously when he has time to spare)

Harry Potter

Harry will be delivering drinks and food from Helleste Cafe (the cafe he works for) to the refugees (he proposed this and letting many refugees to get a job in there to his employers, which they approved) and protecting the recovery effort volunteers in Celliwig.

In addition, he is going to take in a roommate from Celliwig despite living in a small studio apartment since early July and will assist them in finding a job in Camelot and hopefully reuniting with their loved ones.

Hendrik will be using his green magic to assist with growing vegetables and plants as necessary, and volunteering his healing magic in the initial wave of people seeking refuge in the city. He will also volunteer to work with the guard to food is secure and rationed appropriately.

Kaika Theater

Kaika Theater is providing a "Theater Camp Daycare" service. Parents can focus on worrying about things like shelter and food, but they can ease their day by leaving their kids with Kaika for free. Kaika's team members will help out by providing day-long activities, like beginning acting classes, story time, naptime, and an interactive theater show that engages the kids in a child-appropriate play. Kids will be provided with 1 free lunch per day while at daycare, too.

This is super late-- I asked mods about this (daycare) and they let me know that Kaika Theater was doing it! May Souma notice the efforts and ask to help out? He is not experienced with kids and is a bit aloof/awkward but he cares and he's willing to learn. He would do anything needed to support. Happy to be a gopher, clean up, prepare/serve food, hang out with kids, pat backs/rock babies at naptime, tell stories, do puppet shows. No job he won't do, but he doesn't read well.

I'm not sure who would refer him to Kaika Theater but he would enjoy helping the theater group in general as well! Good messenger or stagehand. He briefly met Izumi and just started a thread with Ren, it might lead to him getting to know them. I think he would just walk by & go in and ask. He likes to work!

Jinguji Ren

Ren is organising a concert on October 31st. While it was not originally the intention, the concert is now a charity one to raise money for rebuilding purposes.

Morgan has been throwing the weight of his extensive Bargains and money obtained from said extensive Bargains into providing food, shelter, and comfort for the refugees. Also, he's setting up a pretty massive Bargaining chain among the dust bunnies, of all creatures, to transport goods and resources out of the small trapped places in the ruins. Camelot might be a little crowded with them in the future and he's had to pay them with a lot of pens and socks, so who knows where all THOSE will be turning up.
