![]() The weather is warming, the air has the scent of new growth on it. All around Avalon, people are abuzz-- the magic is restoring faster than anticipated, others from different realms continue to arrive and add to the force. All in all, things are looking up not only for Avalon but also for the rest of the worlds frozen in time. In celebration, all characters will have received an invitation to the castle's Spring Masquerade. Attire is listed as casual or come as you are as long as a character does not forget their mask. Time to explore who they can be when who they are is hidden from the world. Upon arrival at King Arthur's Castle, those who do not have a mask will be given a lovely mask woven of fresh spring flowers from one of the fae at the door. Flowers, vines, and soft floating orbs of light offer delicate arches, soft glows, and a beauty that is as breathtaking as a field of flowers all intricately wrapped around chandeliers, tables, and staircases... they even tangle above the dance floor to allow the lights to hang and illuminate those beneath gently. Once they enter, the soft lilt of harps can be heard, the warble of a bird created on an exciting instrument in one player's hand—a floor for dancing, a bard for singing. Don't worry, you won't be stuck swaying to ancient songs you've never heard of all night. He takes requests and has a special spell from Merlin that lets him learn any piece of music from any world while the spell is in effect as long as you know the full name of the song and artist. He'll forget the songs later, but for now, get ready to get a bard on for this harp jam sesh, honored guests. In the banquet room, tables upon tables are arranged with food ranging from traditional fare such as roast mutton to more modern concoctions such as corn dogs and pandan jelly cake. At least one dish's recipe has been taken from the culture of each other worlder after research.. though some of them may not be perfect, the effort was certainly put in to make otherworlders feel at home and give them a chance to try something new. Punch bowls full of dandelion wine and other tempting flavors are also available... All enchanted so anyone under age will receive the non-alcoholic version no matter how hard they try, of course. One important magical little tiny side note, barely noteable, don't really need to worry about it, you'll hardly notice-- masks are required during the event, and you'll find yourself acting more accordingly to your mask's decoration, even while anonymously. Spring is all about renewal and rebirth, so a wayward "helpful" wizard who wants to usher that along from Camelot has cast a spell upon the castle. Though you will remain yourself for the majority of the night, for one hour of the night, every person will be influenced by the design of their mask. Wear a superhero's mask? You may find yourself trying to help anyone and everyone where you would normally mind your own business. A floral mask from the fairies? As we already know, the language of flowers can be powerful- a rose might turn you into a true romantic, or the "message" of an Iris might cause you to turn into quite the gossip. A cat mask.. well, you get the drift. It's only an hour, and about halfway through the night, Merlin catches the spellcaster and disenchants the masks. Oh well, the party needed a little livening up anyway! As long as no one got hurt, that's the important part. Eat, drink, dance, mingle among the others who have come to call Avalon home, maybe make a new connection. Whatever you do here tonight, remember to have fun and let us not forget that at the end, everyone must unmask. Will you recognize yourself when you do, or will the temptation of anonymity bring out a side of you, you’ve never seen before? ![]() With the feast concluded, as everyone heads outside, they'll start to realize that plants have started overgrowing all over the city. (And those who skipped out may have noticed them growing right over their windows and doors, so they may have wanted to try to get out in a panic or gotten themselves locked in.) They grow around and not through structures, the buildings still safe and sound beneath large vines and leaves and pods and flowers. Most notably, huge beds of vines, open seed pods, and giantic flowers large enough to take a bath in have started cropping up around town, and they all seem to be filled with a vibrant, glowing liquid of some kind. As usual, the citizens of Avalon don't seem particularly alarmed by this and even encourage you to find one that seems to call to you and get in. Each of these floral wonders is called a vernal soul pool. Upon entering one, you'll enter a lucid sleep state that connects you to everyone else in Avalon and the island itself. Doing so will cause your magic to be amplified and grow, but also allow you to be cleansed and refreshed as a person. How much detail the person you're talking to gives is up to you (in case your characters would back off of it if they had the following details but you still want to experience it). Once someone enters, they will immediately feel as if they are at home and the pod will close over them gently, leaving them in a pool of that mysterious glowing substance-- vines grow further to encase, the pod closes, flowers close into buds instead of open blossoms. Characters will enter a realm of shared consciousness with anyone else who has entered the flower, allowing each other to cross over to memory-based versions of each others' worlds. They may find themselves inserted into the other character's world as if a part of their memories to begin with and learn how they would act were they in these other worlds naturally. Ultimately, finding yourself in the scenarios of your peers should help you to learn something new about yourself. Just be careful-- being unable to accept this new information about yourself, who you could be, will prevent you from waking up. From the outside, those who choose not to get into the pods will find trying to forcibly enter someone else's will result in the pods growing thorns and protecting their person with everything they have. Those outside will insist they aren't harmful, so there's really no reason to attack them. The pods will open up at the end of the witching hour and those who were asleep will awaken as long as they were able to accept what they've learned about themselves... For anyone who isn't able to wake up, the Sandman is coming. And when he does, a golden, soft sand sprinkles over the lands of Avalon. This special dust enchants lips-- anyone it touches will be able to awaken someone with a kiss. (What can he say, he's a romantic! Don't worry- any manner of kiss will do, though the instructions are vague so how you interpret that information is up to you.) After all, when we cannot accept ourselves, there is no shame in relying on someone else's help to bring us back to reality. Once everyone is awake again, the dust will dissipate into the atmosphere and put everyone into a normal sleep until morning. When everyone wakes up, all of the overgrowth will be gone. A small flower will be growing in a glass pot next to them. This flower is hardy so don't worry if your character doesn't know how to take care of it too well. During each equinox and solstice will bear fruit that, when eaten, will change one of their magic types. Yes, one of their magic types. Upon waking up, everyone will find that they have access to a secondary magic discipline now... and it may not be a kind they're familiar with... We told you, the Spring Equinox is all about personal growth and renewal. ![]() It doesn't take long after the first instance of new magic crops up that someone takes charge to stop people from being alarmed at an accidental spell or two that's way outside of their usual flavor. Popping up on everyone's device is.. |
"Hello, hello, hello there. It's everyone's favorite greatest Wizard of all time, Merlin. Aren't you glad to see me?" Cue a dazzling smile. You don't get to be the greatest wizard of all time without a healthy ego. "If you've been following me on Insta you're already in on the know, but for my less social media-inclined friends, newsflash: you've all taken to Avalon better than expected. The Vernal Equinox came and said hey guys, gals, and non-binary pals, A+ work, time to reinvent yourselves and re-seed the magic. Before there was just enough to give you all one type each, now you've gone and replenished enough, nature's doubled-down and granted you magic anew- a second discipline. Don't be alarmed if some of them are a little different, more powerful magics are being tossed around this time apparently. Saw some bloke raise roadkill this morning. Nasty business. Unless that's what you're stuck with, then I can recommend some great oils to tuck under your nose. Like a field of flowers. A'ight, Merlin out!" He gives his signature V sign for victory with his hands and ends the video. So helpful. |
Little informative pop-up booths to help people try to figure out their new disciplines will be cropping up around Camelot the following day, almost like a magic job fair. Learn about the new disciplines, find others like you, and connect with potential teachers already in Camelot! Try your hand at a variety of skill-testing games, like spice race-- those who have an aptitude for green magic will be able to inrease the intensity of certain flavors and spices in food even after cooking, so turn the heat up on this pepper in your opponent's mouth! Maybe you ended up with technomancy. You won't be able to find out until you try to convince your friend's device to send your device 1000G... this one has a prize of 1000G for your friend if you succeed. Perhaps siphon magic is your game and you can try your hand at breaking the curse on these cursed objects-- dolls, gemstones, and paintings oh my. Hopefully this really is your ability or you might end up cursed yourself, though. There are plenty of fun 'try-and-see' games around town for the nicer magic types, but some of the magic types... well... CW: The following paragraph contains spooky, darker content such as serial killers, ghosts, and blood! If for whatever reason the nicer magic types didn't take, perhaps you should head on over to the Loch Manor, an abandoned mansion of a nobleman serial killer whose place was so haunted even construction crews weren't able to tear the place down. There are plenty of specters and poltergeists for those with Death Magic to try to communicate with. Rumor has it there is a banshee in the basement trapped there by the nobleman to avoid his inevitable death who would be willing to contract with the right Bargainer for her freedom, offering to scream at an enemy of their choosing long before their death to bring them despair instead. Of course you may also run into the bannik hanging out in the manor's luridly decrepit bathrooms, having been confused by a number of wards placed on the outside of the building to trap the spirits inside and not been able to have a good bath party for some time. His divination is non-specific so he can still tell whether good or bad is coming for you, and is willing to host bathroom parties in your home for the sweet price of getting him the hell out of there and agreeing to buy him some nice bubble bath. Of course, if you turn out to be a blood mage, you may find it beneficial to practice helping you and a friend avoid contact with a monster by sensing any blood flowing nearby... or taking a more aggressive route by weaponizing your own. Now then.. for your convenience, a little form for plotting: |
