POLL: EVENT FORMAT

Hello everyone! It's Tay mod. And you may be wondering 'But why isn't she logged into the mod journal'? That's because I wanted to use a paid-only feature today... a poll!

Our event is coming up on the 20th, and as we work on finalizing prompts, we wanted to see what the community thinks of the best/easiest format for events going forward. (This will not affect the TDM format, only events.)

Poll #24862 Event Style Preference
This poll is closed.
Open to: Access List, detailed results viewable to: Just the Poll Creator, participants: 36

How do you prefer event formats?

A. All top-levels are as replies to one prompt post. Separate post for OOC plotting posted a couple days ahead of in-game event start.
34 (94.4%)

B. Prompt post is a directory for top levels, but top levels should be posted in communities. Separate OOC plotting post at same time.
0 (0.0%)

Other suggestion (comment or reply if you are in favor of someone else's comment)
2 (5.6%)

    Format samples:
    A. Top-levels all in one spot from Empatheias
(Pros: all in one place, cons: potential overflow posts if the game gets big enough)

    B. Directory-style from Prismatica
(Pros: easier to view top levels without using top level view mode, cons: lots of posts on communities make it easy to miss non-event posts)
We know this is short notice, so there are only a couple of days for this poll! This is entirely optional, but we would like your input by 10pm PST on November 19th if you have an opinion. If you don't care, don't worry about it. The event will go up either way.
menphina: we have to do it (just darken it up)

Sup Tay-mod!

I used to make one catch-all with month headers and would post my event top levels under them and just link the relevant top level to the directory post for events (as suggested in B). It kept me from making a new monthly post on the logs community and adding to the clutter.

I know not everyone might want to do that since a single catch-all does tend to bloat if you have a lot of logs in one place, but it did work really well for me so. Offering that as a suggestion/option if majority goes with B! (I'm just a fan of catch-all's now heh)

Editing to add, people could still make individual logs if that's their preference, but I'm very in favour of catch-all log posts with monthly headers within! Or even just catch-alls made for a month, whatever works best. I think having the options available would be good regardless if you're worried about logs being missed on the comm should the game get too big!

I've seen a few people do that in games with directories! I think the overwhelming response for an all-in-one log has us leaning toward option A though, but thank you for your input!

Majority wins! In that case, since option A has the risk of hitting captcha, then I guess people could make catch-all/overflow posts or be encouraged to link those as well? Having the options could make it easy for players to organize their threads however they feel comfortable.

Thank you for your hard work and this poll too!

I like the first option the most, however I have run into an issue with those kinds of set-ups before; namely, once the number of comments gets closer to 1000 my computer starts losing its shit and loading the page muuuuuuuccccch slooooooowwwweeeeeer. What helped for me was having a link to the top-level comments only view in the text of the main post itself, so I could pick through the top-levels much easier. :)

You could also bring threads from the event log to your character's open rp post for continuation too. That way you don't have to worry about constantly reloading 1000+ comments from other threads over and over.

That's definitely a good idea! It appears that there is an overwhelming amount of support for the first option, I definitely don't mind including a link toward the top of the post so you can start off without having to deal with large amounts of comments. I'm sure that will help a lot.

Hullo, mods!

(Please excuse typos, I am bouncing between two keyboard due to tech issues)

I misunderstood what you meant by a directory until I checked out the link. If the event ifairly simple, all i one thread could work since we are probably a new enugh game and Novemeber and December are traditionally slow times for games that we are probably unikely to hit the captcha cp.

However, if the event is very complicated, what about this for an extra option? Since the game is so new, what about an comn just for event related threads, the mai thread would have links to the parts and players would have the choice to post in the individual linked threads in the event log, or make their on thread in the event comn?

Honestly every idea posted here though has both pros and cons, mine included. What matters most is that the event i enjoyable for players and mods alike, and the format comes secondary to that, I think. It is connected, but I am excited about the event no matter the format, and I am sure I am not the only one.

Thank you guys so much for the game so far, and for putting up with the crazy! (I know I contributed more than my fair share of crazy
>.<)

Yes, it looks like there is an overwhelming response for a non-directory style event post. I do not think we need to make a separate community for events however, best to keep things simple.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and I'm glad you're looking forward to the event!
