Important Announcements for February

The weather is shifting away from snowy and into rainy! Forecast is lots of rain, fog, and periodic hail. It's overall very wet, and very cold (20-30F/-6C to -1C). Where the ground was snowy, it is now slush and sleet. The lake is still frozen over, but the ice is very thin now. It would be dangerous to attempt to walk on top of it. Take advantage of the parka sale this month, 30% off!
Frost fairies are out in full-force this month. Frost fairies are invisible to the naked eye, but can be seen through mirrors and glass. These fairies create ice crystals on contact, and can be spotted when you see beautiful ice crystal patterns forming in their trail. It's not recommended to try to capture one, as they can cause frost bite when you are in contact with them. Despite the rain, they seem to be keeping the grounds icy and covered in slush and sleet. Locals will tell your character that they love ice cream, and to leave some on an open window sill at night (it's cold, we know); they will find themselves with a gift in exchange. The locals say the Frost fairies love collecting shiny things, so their gifts each are always shiny in nature, though its value can really vary year to year.
- The gift received for doing this will be a Disco Ball: Throw it into a room, it will black out the lights and illuminate with disco ball lights. Music will play and all occupants of the room will be forced to dance until someone is able to turn the lights back on.
- If looked at through a mirror or glass, the fairies look like short, fat, all-white penguins with flamingo-length legs and icicle crowns. Truly majestic.
Avalonians do not celebrate any official Valentine's Day, though some citizens of Camelot City may be inspired to do small things to cheer off-worlders up.
February is a month of a special Avalonian drink: Cafe breve sweetened with melted honey. It's a hot drink popular with fairies and humans alike. Many cafes will be serving these, as this phenomenon is kind of like pumpkin spice lattes in the fall, but with hot honey flavors in February. Different eateries may advertise different varieties of honey as their special stand-out factor.

NEW Housekeeping Updates:

Added a clearly marked notice to the top of the Rewards page indicating that the rewards page is not to be used for thread banking and should only be commented on when you are ready to redeem.

Monthly Updates Summary:

Free passes have been added to the Taken List and AC spreadsheet. Characters with a 👑 have a free pass. To use it, simply type "pass" instead of providing a link. Passes are valid through Nov. 2021.
For clarity, we added the timeline specification to the AC spreadsheet: "Threads should be started during the current AC month or in the last 7 days of the previous month, provided the majority of the thread is in the current month."
Sticky posts were added to the top of each community with links to all communities. The log comm's includes a copy-paste log starter, the OOC comm has links to monthly post tags so everything is super easy to find.
Huge FAQ overhaul! All the questions have been combed through and added to the FAQ for the first 4 pages before the mod comment. We are not screening/deleting questions because we do reference some of them in the FAQ to save space where there could easily be multiple subsections on details. Because there is so much new information, please check out the highlighted version to see what's "new" (from questions we have received on FAQ and plurk.) Note that we did not include questions that pertain to specific characters/canons.
A clarification added to the "Apply" directions regarding canon info when a wiki is not available.
A note was added to the Elphame Traders Rewards Points page about IC sharing of rewards.
Familiar caps will be instated starting in February. No more than 10 of a particular type of familiar will be allowed at this time. (Disregarding aesthetic version- so a zombie cat and a zombie dog and a zombie chameleon will all be counted as "Zombies.") We will include current capped on the application page at the start of each month.

Locations page's map has been updated to include an updated "open area." The updates include the pure of heart bridge and some of the surrounding area. Celliwig is still unavailable.
