QuestBoard - Jan. 2021

QuestBoard is an app you can download onto your smartphones that's similar to TaskRabbit. Each month, people around town will posts jobs asking for help with various tasks like building furniture, running errands, pet sitting, and more. Characters can make a living off of this if they choose to and assume normal day-to-day tasks you would normally find on an app IRL like TaskRabbit. Handwaved tasks do not earn credit toward becoming a Knight or a Noble, but the special tasks labeled as this month's "Top Tasks" in the app will gain clout for your character.

QuestBoard Top Tasks are the ones that are posted at the start of each month. Any character may complete them, even if they seem like a unique task, because time being frozen and magic mayhem are a recipe for weird time pockets resulting in multiple occurrences in the same space. (Tl;dr there are no dibs, just have fun.) There are three kinds of tasks, each labeled with a symbol for its type:

🗡️ = COMBAT QUEST (counts toward Knighthood)
🛡️ = ASSISTANCE QUEST
(counts toward Nobility)
🌌 = SPECIAL
(see quest details)

Combat and assistance quests are the most common and will appear every month. Specials are tasks that either fit both categories, neither category, or has some kind of exceptional reward. Special tasks are uncommon, so do not expect to see them all the time.

Each quest is worth 1 Rewards point unless your character has achieved Knighthood or Nobility status (See FAQ for more information), which both double rewards points.

Do not reply to this post to do a quest. Just thread out the quest and turn it in as instructed on the Rewards Points (Elphame Traders) page when you are ready to redeem. Threads must be started in the month that the quest was announced, though it may start at any day during the month and you may backtag as necessary.

❄️ January Top Tasks ❄️

Task NameDetails
🛡️  A Knocking We Will GoThere’s a brownie and dust bunny infestation. Typically helpful buggers, it seems they are out to have a little fun and make a little mischief. The brownies will beset all living quarters, both traveler and Avalonian alike. They will not let themselves be seen, but they will make sure they are heard in the walls or beneath the floors. As if they are “haunting” the occupants. While usually leaving gifts or other chores for the brownies will appease them, they have been tasked with an important job. Make the occupants use their new magic. That said, the only way to rid dwellings of these infestations will be through magic. Work in teams, combine magics. However you go about it, make sure you use magic and expect to keep finding little signs of their infestation until you succeed.

🛡️ After the StormThe storm left behind a significant mess in its wake. There was a lot of damage, and various shopkeepers and the city itself needs people to help clean debris, shovel snow, and so on to clean up the City of Camelot back to its former glory.

🗡️ Bridge TrollsThe bridge to the west of the farmlands was damaged in the storm. We have construction workers at the ready, but they're unable to get close to the bridge as a band of bridge trolls has taken advantage of the commotion to kick out the previous peaceful dwellers of the bridge. These bridge trolls are not letting anyone out of their sight with any valuables-- the last fellow we sent to talk to them came back without his trousers! Dispatch of the invader bridge trolls at once.

🛡️ Internet TrollsSomeone has been spamming lewd messages to the AOL network and privately messaging users lately. Someone with tech skills is needed to hack the troll and find his location to report to the local authorities for being a public nuisance and exposing people to things outside of their comfort zone. The troll goes under the sock account "AllUrBaseAreBelongToFae69." Not only is it a nuisance, but that meme is so passé. (OOC Note: Please feel free to assume your character received a message from the troll if that sounds fun to you-- but that won't count for the quest.)

🗡️ Shadlin ShowdownAvalonians are on edge, for as magic sweeps the land, it not only awakens the good but the darker parts of this world. Balance is needed; all creatures, big and small, are important but what they fear is that as time progresses and more magic is fed into Avalon, the stronger these creatures will get.  A flyer is posted, urging those capable of doing so to please take the time to investigate the Edge of Dusklight Woods (Players will not be able to go further than the edge at this time). There have been tales of odd occurrences, strange eyes and sounds coming from within those trees, and Avalonians are getting nervous.

Those brave enough to enter the Edge of the Dusklight wood after dark will meet what is known as Shadlins, while they will not reveal themselves investigators will feel as if they are being watched; the closer they travel to the edge, the more distinct it becomes. The eyes come next; are they red? Green? Blue? Gold? Orange? All travelers tell a different tale; the one thing they all agree upon, those eyes haunt a person for days, weeks, months after. Something in those woods is watching; something in those woods is waiting for the magic to sweep the land, to open its territory. Investigate and report your findings back to the castle.

Hi mods! For the Shadlin Showdown quest, what would happen if someone tried to pull the Shadlins out into the open using kinetic magic?

ALMOST FORGOT TO ADD for the Knocking We Will Go quest, can those with animal magic talk to the dust bunnies?
