QuestBoard - January 2022
QuestBoard Top Tasks are the ones that are posted at the start of each month. Any character may complete them, even if they seem like a unique task, because time being frozen and magic mayhem are a recipe for weird time pockets resulting in multiple occurrences in the same space. (tl;dr there are no dibs, just have fun.) There are three kinds of tasks, each labeled with a symbol for its type:
= COMBAT QUEST (counts toward Knighthood OR Unseelie)
= ASSISTANCE QUEST (counts toward Nobility OR Arcane Mage) 
= SPECIAL (see quest details) Combat and assistance quests are the most common and will appear every month. Specials are tasks that either fit both categories, neither category, or has some kind of exceptional reward. Special tasks are uncommon, so do not expect to see them all the time. Each quest is worth 1 Rewards point unless your character has achieved Knighthood or Nobility status (See FAQ for more information), which both double rewards points.
Do not reply to this post to do a quest. Just thread out the quest and turn it in as instructed on the Rewards Points (Elphame Traders) page when you are ready to redeem. Threads must be started in the month that the quest was announced, though it may start at any day during the month and you may backtag as necessary. Ice Fishing
There's a special species of fish that only wakes up during the coldest days of January when the gorge beneath the Land of Maidens called Nieve Needlefish! The catch? They can't be caught with rods, nets, or equipment!
You've got to dive in the ice-cold water and catch fish by hand! We recommend taking a partner in case you run into trouble, like the surface freezing over your exit, hypothermia setting in, or the needlefish teaming up to eat your toes off while you're not looking. The good news? I'll pay 10,000G and a hot cocoa for each Nieve Needlefish you bring in!

At the edge of the Dusklight Forest, a strange creature seemingly made of leaves and mud and covered in a ragged cloak is roaming around. In place of its face, it wears a wooden mask that rattles when it speaks. This creature doesn't seem to have a name, but it escaped from Elphame's underground prison.
If it is looking at you, you cannot show any emotion. Any shows of emotion will grant it the ability to reach into your chest and push your soul out of your body. It is a creature of cognitive magic and can read hearts. When it speaks, it will speak of your deepest weakness and attempt to break you. There are corpses littered around the edge of the Dusklight Forest from people who have met this creature and did not have their souls return in time.
There are three options for this quest: 1. Recapture the creature via battle and return it to Elphame authorities. 2. Cognitive mages: Use astral projection to find and guide souls back to their bodies. 3. Investigate bodies to find corpses and dispose of them. Be careful to check for vitals and not dispose of anyone who can still be saved.
Yelling Yetis
The Snow Games have been canceled this year due to resources being directed toward the refugees and the yetis are not having it. They've come down from the mountains and been yelling and throwing tantrums.
This is a no kill mission: engage in hand-to-hand and magical combat to drive the yetis back into the mountains. Getting them as far as Lotus Pod Mountain should be far enough and they'll head back to where they need to be.

There are tiered prizes for sales, starting with low prizes like chocolate boxes and glowsticks to top prizes donated by Elphame Traders to help drive sales, like a magical rhodochrosite crystal earrings.

IC, you'll get credit for 4 NPCs sales for every 1 PC who agrees to buy from your character. So 1 PC comment = 5 sales. Beta Testing
Agree to my quest and I'll send you an experimental dalmation stone enchantment! I'll pay handsomely to anyone who will take the stone, drip a single drop of blood on it (it'll absorb, don't worry about a mess!) then pass it off to another person. Report the effects back and how long the enchantment lasts.
(OOC: Doing this spell will result in a body swap between the character who accepts the quest and the person they give the dalmation stone to! The recipient of the stone doesn't have to be willing and will not be paid for the experiment, it all goes to the character who requests the stone via the dark web. Player permission is, of course, required. Magic will stay the same as the familiar bond is via soul rather than body. You can decide how long it lasts, up to 1 week.)
Roast Pork

Sneak into the private club Jack Rabbit's dressed as one of their Playboy bunny-suited servers. I need someone to sneak a potion derived from giant hogweed into their champagne fountain. Get out quickly, or watch the fireworks- up to you!
This potion will remove all protection from the sun from a person's skin, making them boil alive the second they step out into it. Careful not to get any on you and make sure to bring a partner to act as either lookout or distraction to keep security from catching on.
Cyber Attack
Find a technomancer to help you with this task! I need to disguise my crimes with some of the same type. Thrust your favorite melee weapon through a computer screen to stab someone via social media! Don't forget to go anonymous so you don't get caught!

Roast Pork: I assume the quest-giver will provide the potion - will they leave it somewhere for collection, or hand it over personally? In either case, will they do so only at the club, or be willing to leave it / meet up elsewhere? (Hijikata of course wants to prevent the crime, and if possible he'd like to avoid the bunny outfit too...)

Death mages can sense astral projected souls, but for the most part, they're still more or less living until their body dies so they may have trouble communicating with them! The closer to death they are, the more a death mage will be able to communicate with them, so if they can easily talk to them, circumstances are getting dire.
It will appear in their mailbox, wherever that is. Sorry Hijikata, if you keep trying to bust people they're gonna start hardcore harassment (stalking and sending him photos of being followed, sending him creepy packages like the kinds of stuff you see on dark web mystery boxes on YouTube but real, sending him hatemail and maybe like a finger in the mail, etc.)

This is neat to know! It makes sense that the cognitive mages would only have to pass the torch to the death mages once a soul having an out-of-body experience gets close to becoming a ghost. Hijikata will look out for those and for the ones who did die, if they're still in the area - that's not part of the quest, but he kind of made it his job to look after the ghosts (
maybe they'll let themselves be recruited later!).Nefarious!! But yeah, he can be a thorn in the dark web's side (though the only dark web quest he succesfully derailed was he dullahan head smuggling affair, I think), and I'll make sure he gets consequences for it... though this time he'll be shifty by tackling the quest while in Maribelle's body (thanks, Beta Testing), so in the worst case she may end up getting the backlash (I'll discuss possibilities with her mun), and it'll be more of an interpersonal fall-out. 💥 In any case he'll hand the potion in to the police, just for the record in case it helps get the grillmaster apprehended behind the scenes!

He'll notice that it tasted weird, but it'll be too late, so once he gets it analysed he'll have to deal with not being able to go out during the day at all anymore for... how long would it be until his body gets a handle on things? Up to a few months, I read for real-world giant hogweeds? Or does this last longer/forever?
Also Elza will want to go after the perpetrator - can we just go wild on that front (and, in doubt, handwave it as one of many potential time loops), or is this one of the cases where the dark web denizen is too careful and will disappear out of reach?

Go ahead and have fun with catching him. Just keep in mind that if Elza ties it to Hijikata, there may be retaliation for messing with dark web crime since he's being a thorn in their side. >:| (Same goes for Elza if she keeps it up, but once or twice won't result in anon action.)

Given his currently rotten reputation after the fall-out with Maribelle he may struggle to find a healer willing to give him daily sessions, so he'll have "fun" with his condition for a while. Since he's already been going on night patrol fairly often it'll probably only piss the nocturnal fae off more to see him out and about every night, so he may incur even more hexes... at this rate it's going to be a gamble if he'll make it to the next autumn equinox in one piece (that's when he'll disband the ghost patrol to send the ghost on to the afterlives, if all goes well on that front this year)!
