QuestBoard - December 2021
QuestBoard is an app you can download onto your smartphones. Each month, people around town will posts jobs asking for help with various tasks like building furniture, running errands, pet sitting, and more. Characters can make a living off of this if they choose to and assume normal day-to-day tasks you would normally find on an app IRL like TaskRabbit. Handwaved tasks do not earn credit toward gaining a title, but the special tasks labeled as this month's 'Top Tasks' in the app will gain clout for your character.
QuestBoard Top Tasks are the ones that are posted at the start of each month. Any character may complete them, even if they seem like a unique task, because time being frozen and magic mayhem are a recipe for weird time pockets resulting in multiple occurrences in the same space. (tl;dr there are no dibs, just have fun.) There are three kinds of tasks, each labeled with a symbol for its type:
= COMBAT QUEST (counts toward Knighthood OR Unseelie)
= ASSISTANCE QUEST (counts toward Nobility OR Arcane Mage)
= SPECIAL (see quest details) Combat and assistance quests are the most common and will appear every month. Specials are tasks that either fit both categories, neither category, or has some kind of exceptional reward. Special tasks are uncommon, so do not expect to see them all the time.
Each quest is worth 1 Rewards point unless your character has achieved Knighthood or Nobility status (See FAQ for more information), which both double rewards points.
Do not reply to this post to do a quest. Just thread out the quest and turn it in as instructed on the Rewards Points (Elphame Traders) page when you are ready to redeem. Threads must be started in the month that the quest was announced, though it may start at any day during the month and you may backtag as necessary. Feel free to reply to this post with questions about Top Tasks.
UPDATED FORMAT NOTE: Click on the quest title to drop down the quest details, so you can view as many or as few as you want at a time!

❄️ December Top Tasks 🧊

Potion Pukers
CW: mild emeto
The newcomers this month are coming into Elphame, and it's just as well! It seems like a population of tasselled wabbegongs has migrated into the normal arrival bay after the weird weather and are basically covering the ground floor. They need to be dispersed from the area (not killed).
Be careful, they blend in with the lake floor and are known for eating potions off of people, then burping them back up at enemies. (Use the glossary for potions to have burped back up at your character during this quest.)

Avalon Crossing:
Snowy Shack Paradise
Snow Spirits come down each year in the winter and need vacation homes. Last year, more traditional homes were asked for, but this year, the Snow Spirits have put in a number of odd theme requests for the interiors. You may get something simple, like "Relaxing Reading Nook" or you may get something a little more out there like "Spoon-eared Alien Skater Romance."
To ask for a theme, put a snowball outside of your home as an invitation and you'll receive your theme overnight, then use the snow to create a snow-sculpted vacation home that meets the snow sprite's request! Meet the theme, and they'll happily offer pay. Ignore it after requesting to make one and they'll fill your home with snow at least halfway full.
OR
Oo-nye-doo?
Someone cursed Archimedes's horses. They've run and scattered themselves. Please find each of the horses and return them to the Rent-a-Ride for assistance quest credit, or hunt down the man responsible for the curse and bring him to Archimedes ALIVE (though not necessarily unharmed) for combat quest credit. Archimedes wants to punish him himself.
(OOC Note: The horses have been cursed to look like this. This detail is not mentioned in the quest or by Archimedes. You can only claim this quest for 1 type even if you complete both parts.)

Who you gonna call?
Evil spirits have been haunting Camelot's streets! Please, seal them up in the provided jars that we've had a death mage enchant to seal as soon as they're corked. Collect them all and hide them where you think no one will accidentally unleash them again!
(OOC Note: This quest is a counterpart to the player-run dark web quest called "Ghostbusters." It is a false-flag quest used to rope "good guys" into going after Hijikata's ghost squad. Click here to ask questions about it.)
🏰 Dark Web Tasks 💲
Not the goody two-shoes type? Every realm that has the internet also has a dark web-- a place where illegal opportunities are rife for the taking. Characters may hear about how to access the dark web if they are going around trying to get involved in criminal activity. This is an alternate option for characters who would not seek out nobility or knighthood and wish to take a darker path toward the titles of Unseelie or Arcane Mage.
Note that while characters may complete tasks from either the QuestBoard or the Dark Web, they can only choose either Nobility/Knighthood titles OR Unseelie/Arcane Mage titles.

Banyanished
CW: taphophobia
There is a banyan tree that's enveloped the underground fae prison about halfway between Dinas Emrys and the Forest of the Felled. Those who have upset the fae and have been banished there were sealed in, never to be released even when their sentence is up as the banyan now slowly sucks their life forces away. Because there are some dangerous folks down there who will inevitably seek revenge, the governance of Elphame has decided to leave them down there to rot at the Banyan's mercy.
We are asking you to use your magic to engage the tree in battle and save the prisoners, but be cautious- the tree can move its roots and has a wide network of them underground, ready to pull people under by their feet and bury them in living graves. Make sure you bring a partner to help you escape its grasp or you too will become part of its life-sucking prison.

Bar Brawl
CW: alcohol
There is a sylph who hangs around in the Rivermark Tavern that can only be seen by those who are intoxicated. Get shitfaced and beat the shit out of her. She owes me money and needs to know that her invisibility isn't going to help her get away without paying.

Go Get 'Em, Tiger
NSFW! Characters 16+ only
The early arrival of winter has pissed off the Autumn Witch and she's gone into the Forest of the Felled to host an orgy and use a sex magic-fueled ritual to melt the snow in the forest to give it a chance to grow and heal now that it's cleaned up. They won't let us post this on main, so go forth and bang outside in the Forest of the Felled while wearing jewelry with a tigers' eye on it, a stone used to reclaim power and balance sexual energies. Any partner will do. More partners will generate more energy!

Ghostbusters
There are plenty of do-gooders out here, but this guy's the absolute worst. His name's Hijikata and he's gone about recruiting ghosts to do his knightly duties for him. We've had to waste money hiring death mages just to make sure we aren't being spied on and about to get busted by this jagoff! Seal up his ghosts, scatter them, keep him busy trying to rescue them all for as long as you can so we can pull off an important heist without him interrupting.
(OOC Note: This quest is a counterpart to the player-run QuestBoard quest called "Who You Gonna Call?" It is the true intention of the quest. Click here to ask questions about it.)

Even though I may be incredibly slow in December because of Endwalker's release, I'd love if they could have some kind of thread with Emet helping to rescue/return ghosts to Hijikata.

I'm all for that!! With everyone presumably spending the majority of the month in Elphame the search/rescue as such may end up sliding into January, so there's no rush at all.

👻 While Hijikata will (belatedly, because his burner phone with dark web access has an issue... what unfortunate bad timing!) catch wind of the hunt for his subordinates and mcfreaking lose it (meaning there'll be an opportunity for people to mock/pity/console him) that post won't be where the actual questing takes place - people can thread the ghost-hunting out on their own catch-all or stand-alone posts like any regular quest and NPC the ghosts!
👻 Generally only death mages can see and hear ghosts, so having a death mage in the party would be helpful - but there are ways for anyone to lure them, for example by simulating shady behaviour or even just an accident, which they'll come to investigate (only at nighttime, though!). They may then be sensed by the chill they exude (though it's admittedly damn cold in Camelot in general right now...).
👻 Since Hijikata recruited the ghosts across the board among those who ended up adrift on Avalon after the autumn equinox there are all kinds among them, from "newbies" who died in the destruction of Celliwig or Lestari to "older" ghosts from different eras, cultures, etc. (since ghosts from all underworlds pass through Avalon during the autumn equinox to visit the different lands of the living).
Some may have been professional fighters in life, others were perhaps stay-at-home mums. That means ghost hunters may encounter anything from valiant but fairly harmless ghosts to more experienced (and thus more dangerous) ones! Some may just try to flee (probably through walls) or make things float as a distraction, whereas some may outright possess a ghost hunter and get them into a troublesome situation (think walking them onto a rooftop or some other place they wouldn't want to be).
I'm tracking this thread, so just ask away if you have any questions and I'll be back with you!

Banyanished
1) Will characters be able to find information on the prison in the archivist's materials or other (semi-)publicly available sources, or only through their dark web contacts / information brokers? (I realise that that can be handwaved, but do-gooders would have a much harder time, depending!)
2) Where is the entrance located (given that the prison seems to be under the Valley of the Shearing, which is Elphame territory)?
3) Whether this information is attained through third parties or direct investigation onsite, what sort of criminals are interred there - anything from petty fae-offenders to mass murderers, or only true dangers to society, or..?

2. This is about where the prison falls:
(You can see the gorge is that water spot on the map, then it teleports up to the Land of the Maidens in the sky.) The prison is underground, and the tree above it is massive, but the roots that exist beneath the surface that support the prison. It does not go into the Valley of the Shearing yet! It does go under some farmlands that support the Land of Maidens.
3. It's hard to specifically categorize. Fae crimes are not so simple as murder or thief- many fae are born to do just that. It is about who wronged who, who has been disrespected, and most importantly who has not held true to their promises and agreements. Fae disputes are seen to by the queen, and unless the queen has a stake in the outcome, she will often leave the punishment to what the accuser believes is fair.
