QuestBoard - May 2022

QuestBoard is an app you can download onto your smartphones. Each month, people around town will posts jobs asking for help with various tasks like building furniture, running errands, pet sitting, and more. Characters can make a living off of this if they choose to and assume normal day-to-day tasks you would normally find on an app IRL like TaskRabbit. Handwaved tasks do not earn credit toward gaining a title, but the special tasks labeled as this month's 'Top Tasks' in the app will gain clout for your character.

QuestBoard Top Tasks are the ones that are posted at the start of each month. Any character may complete them, even if they seem like a unique task, because time being frozen and magic mayhem are a recipe for weird time pockets resulting in multiple occurrences in the same space. (tl;dr there are no dibs, just have fun.) There are three kinds of tasks, each labeled with a symbol for its type:

Combat Quest Sword = COMBAT QUEST (counts toward Knighthood OR Unseelie)
Assistance Quest Shield = ASSISTANCE QUEST (counts toward Nobility OR Arcane Mage)
Special Quest Swirl = SPECIAL
(see quest details) Combat and assistance quests are the most common and will appear every month. Specials are tasks that either fit both categories, neither category, or has some kind of exceptional reward. Special tasks are uncommon, so do not expect to see them all the time.

Each quest is worth 1 Rewards point unless your character has achieved Knighthood or Nobility status (See FAQ for more information), which both double rewards points.

Do not reply to this post to do a quest. Just thread out the quest and turn it in as instructed on the Rewards Points (Elphame Traders) page when you are ready to redeem. Threads must be started in the month that the quest was announced, though it may start at any day during the month and you may backtag as necessary. Feel free to reply to this post with questions about Top Tasks.

🌷 May Top Tasks 🌈

Combat Quest Sword
Scary Sea Shanties

I'm looking for brave people to brave the waters outside Camelot to find a fae that lives in there. You will hear a song, a beautiful melody, but with an eerie message of death before a sudden storm surrounds you. Details of what happened next have never reached out ears, because too many ships have left to fish and never returned. We need to get rid of this fae and free the place to fish once again!

(ooc: Storm Hag is the fae this time! She is a very ugly woman with greenish skin and teeth. Her fingernails can paralyze if they scratch your character or she might ride the waves and try to pull you down to the water and use lightning strikes to electrocute anyone.)

Assistance Quest Shield
TikTok Challenge

This has become really popular on the Tik Tok app and I have managed to use Technomancy as a way to make it happen for real. Download this app and it will give you a "Scavenger Hunt" mission with different items you need to find. If you fail to find the item in time you'll get a minor curse (nothing too bad! just stuff like can only speak in reverse or stuff, no biggie) and the more items you find the more you get paid! Take a pic of the item you found and it will register it as found.

What you do with the items afterwards is up to you but if you're borrowing stuff, maybe return them?

(ooc: Items to look for: cat ears headband, banana shaped pet bed, magical honey jar, holy grail replica, toy pickaxe, oregano-basil spice mix, seasonal washi tape, Christmas tree decoration, moon bunny earrings, sheep wool, fire bottle. Some of the items are up to interpretation)

Assistance Quest Shield
MediQueens

It's the season for nuptial flights for ants. I wish to gather as many Queen ants as possible for my ant farm. All of the Queens have magical properties when they're pregnant, so I want to collect them to use for medicine. Of course this means you got to find the ones that have already done the deed!

Once you capture a queen though, you might want to be careful because the male ants will be coming for you. I know, I tried last year. Which is why this time I'm asking someone else to do it for me!

Combat Quest Sword KNIGHT QUEST: This quest is available IC only to characters with the Knight title. Knights can invite anyone to complete the quest with them. This is a diplomatic mission to help Aethelwyne from Queen Elphame's court. They need someone to infiltrate a group of Unseelie Fae who seem to be planning something sinister as they are themselves unable to do so without getting caught almost immediately. They don't know what the plans are, so they need us to find out what it is and bring evidence about it back to Camelot. Once all the evidence has been sorted out we can think of how to proceed from there.

The fae are offering to teach spells for completing the quest this time.
(ooc: The "sinister plans" can be suggested by the players of the Knights taking on this quest here and from among those suggestions, something else will unlock later as a quest. As for the spells, here are the three options your Knights can choose from:

  • tRAPped - Trap your opponent into a cage made out of nearby objects. As a side effect, makes both you and your opponent get into a rap battle about whatever you were fighting about (even the animals or monsters, even if you might not understand what they say). If you win the rap battle, you knock the opponent out cold. If you lose, they're free.

  • Catch some zzz's - Use this spell on someone who is sleeping to catch some of their sleep energy. You can use the energy gathered later to fight off your own sleep deprivation. Next time you sleep properly, you will see dreams about this person and about their future. (ooc: the dreams are pure nonsense, but seem like they could be true. you can never be too sure, right?)

  • Seal of Approval - A spell to make an item approved, meaning it will fix itself back into the way it was before once - like a warranty. After one use the spell has to be cast again.**

  • ** This description is false! This spell was confused with the Sealment of Approval spell that was supposed to be in this selection. The real description is: When you agree with someone, use this spell! An aquatic seal will teleport into the view and boop its nose into the approved thing and/or person and then teleport back to where it came!

    ⛈️ Dark Web Tasks 👁‍🗨

    Combat Quest Sword
    Wisper of Trouble

I've caught a not insignificant number of wisps that came for us a couple of weeks ago and have used advanced sealing spells to trap them in my basement until they have angered and possessed the various household objects I left for them to rage about in. Anyone interested in invading the business of your enemies with a battalion of brutish brooms? All you need to do is round them up in a carriage and open the door at theirs! Rounding them up and driving the carriage with them in there is on you!

    Assistance Quest Shield
    Battery Biters

Share this cute little creature app with your friends on their phone! They come with multiple skins that look like cartoon-form Unseelie fae. Sooo cute! And just as dangerous. These little creatures will eat their battery power and the magic from their MagiCast technology and funnel it toward my device! Thanks for the help!

(OOC Note: Technomancers will have an advantage in being able to talk the little cartoon fae into protecting their own device, but others may have to go to extra lengths not to become victims themselves.)

    Combat Quest Sword
    Rise, Heroes!

Yesterday, you may have seen my work! My new Balloon Spell! Turn any balloon into a death trap, all you have to do is convince your target to take the string! The string will wrap around their waist and become impossible to break, then the balloon's helium will increase to carry them high into the sky, much like the weather balloons they use on some planets. I will send the instructions to any who wish to learn how to do it on one condition: you must use it to rid the world of at least one despicable person. I wish to clean up the roads of Camelot and Elphame! Rise up, vigilantes! Raise your enemies high into the sky! Rise, Heroes!

(OOC Note: They will come down.. eventually. Rapidly. Balloons pop eventually. Splat.)
