Tricky question bc different canons have different ways undead work so as a blanket rule we'll say souls that have passed on from the world of the living. (So if your pal is a walking dead zombie or a btvs vampire, you wouldn't see the soulless monster version, you'd see the original human friend for example. But if they're effectively themselves and alive but have to eat people like iZombie for example then no.)
