QuestBoard - January 2022

QuestBoard is an app you can download onto your smartphones. Each month, people around town will posts jobs asking for help with various tasks like building furniture, running errands, pet sitting, and more. Characters can make a living off of this if they choose to and assume normal day-to-day tasks you would normally find on an app IRL like TaskRabbit. Handwaved tasks do not earn credit toward gaining a title, but the special tasks labeled as this month's 'Top Tasks' in the app will gain clout for your character.

QuestBoard Top Tasks are the ones that are posted at the start of each month. Any character may complete them, even if they seem like a unique task, because time being frozen and magic mayhem are a recipe for weird time pockets resulting in multiple occurrences in the same space. (tl;dr there are no dibs, just have fun.) There are three kinds of tasks, each labeled with a symbol for its type:

= COMBAT QUEST (counts toward Knighthood OR Unseelie)
= ASSISTANCE QUEST (counts toward Nobility OR Arcane Mage)
= SPECIAL (see quest details) Combat and assistance quests are the most common and will appear every month. Specials are tasks that either fit both categories, neither category, or has some kind of exceptional reward. Special tasks are uncommon, so do not expect to see them all the time.

Each quest is worth 1 Rewards point unless your character has achieved Knighthood or Nobility status (See FAQ for more information), which both double rewards points.

Do not reply to this post to do a quest. Just thread out the quest and turn it in as instructed on the Rewards Points (Elphame Traders) page when you are ready to redeem. Threads must be started in the month that the quest was announced, though it may start at any day during the month and you may backtag as necessary. January Announcements & December Update Log!

 Happy New Year! Apologies about the delay.


Announcements for January:

• January weather will range from 41F/5C to 52F/11C and will rain about half of the days.
• January will feature this game's first gamewide HMD. It will be opt-in only except for moderation, which will have a guaranteed place to submit feedback.
• January's weather this year will be largely light snowfall to no snowfall throughout the month, around 2"/5.08cm on the ground. The last week will feature a small snowstorm resulting in about 2'/60.96cm of snow. Those in Camelot will see huge plumes coming from the distance, but residents don't seem concerned. The far side of one of the Ash Mountains can sometimes interact with the snow.
  
• On the 31st, a countdown to the new year will occur- when midnight strikes and the new year begins, a fireworks show will come from Camelot's castle for the whole city to see. It will last about 20 minutes, and fireworks will be infused with magic-- there are some that are normal, some that change colors or shapes mid-explosion, dragon-shaped fireworks that fly through the city before exploding into glitter, and so on.
• In Elphame, they have a tradition of sending silk flowers up into the sky. The idea is to write a goal on one of the petals, then hand your flower to someone you care about. Those who write messages of love or good will on the back of your goal petal will guarantee success should you put the first foot forward toward achieving the goal, but those who do not want your aims to come true can write "Curse" on the back and it will be impossible to succeed this year, no matter how hard you try or how easy it is. It's an exercise in trust. Use any magic on the lotus and instead of the spell used, it will cause the lotus to illuminate and float up into the sky. Time is frozen everywhere else, but at least in Avalon, they can celebrate the new year! The multiverse still hasn't been eliminated, it's something to celebrate!
• AC is back in effect for January.
• The EMP for February will take place at the end of January.

NEW Housekeeping Updates:

• New Rewards System is live here. Update your bookmarks! The link has already been updated in Navigation. If you submitted yours on the old post for December, that's still totally fine! We will start regular use of the new version in January.
• Locations added: Land of Maidens, Nicnevin
• Locations page was separated into two sections: New Camelot and Elphame. This is a temporary measure as time permitting we want to revamp the Locations page to make it more accessible overall.
• Land of Maidens Totem is now available for purchase in the Elphame Traders / AC Rewards.

Monthly Updates Summary:

• New recurring rewards spreadsheet was added to the rewards page.
• No AC was announced for December only.
